Help & info for patients

Not sure about your skin?
Here’s how we can help

How Derm2check works

The quickest way to get clarity is through the AI check. In just a few minutes, you analyse your skin complaint and receive a first assessment. A registered dermatologist then reviews your results and provides advice or recommends treatment if needed.

Prefer to choose a dermatologist directly? That’s possible too. Search by availability, location, price, or reviews from other patients. All dermatologists on Derm2check are registered specialists.

Direct contact with a specialist

Derm2check connects you directly with a dermatologist, who is responsible for your treatment. Have questions after your consultation? Contact your treating specialist directly.

Afterwards, we’ll invite you to leave a review so we can continue to uphold our standards of care.

Reimbursement

Many health insurers cover (part of) a remote dermatology consultation. Check with your provider to confirm whether this service is covered for you.

Frequently asked questions

The easiest way to start is with our AI check. Describe your skin complaint, add one or more photos, and get a first orientation in minutes. A registered dermatologist then reviews your results and advises you on the next step.

Whatever you fill in about your complaint is passed on to the dermatologist, so you don’t have to explain everything again and your specialist can get straight to the point.

Prefer to go straight to a specialist? You can also choose a dermatologist directly and book the type of consultation that suits you best:

  • Email advice
  • Scheduled video appointment
  • Online walk-in consultation

You pay securely online in advance. You don’t need a referral from your GP to use Derm2check.

Each dermatologist on our platform has a detailed profile, so you can make an informed choice before you book.

Yes, the AI assessment is completely free. You can describe your problem, add photos and receive an initial recommendation at no cost and without needing an account.

Your photos and description will only be available during the consultation. As soon as you leave the AI consultation, they will be deleted. The only exception is if you decide to continue treatment with a dermatologist and want your details to be sent to them. In that case, only the dermatologist you choose will be able to see what you have entered.

  1. You need an account to book regular video appointments. However, you can book a one-time appointment without an account (some doctors offer walk-in video appointments. During business hours, you can sign in and wait in the virtual waiting room until the doctor is ready to begin your video appointment).
  2. Search for your preferred doctor and click the button for the video consultation. If you are not already logged in, you will be prompted to do so. If you do not yet have an account, you can create one.
  3. Check the doctor’s calendar for availability and select a time slot that works for you.
  4. The booking form will now be pre-filled with your personal information. Please review it before submitting your booking.

The AI check is the quickest way to get a first sense of your skin complaint. You answer a few questions and, if you’d like, upload a photo. Based on this, you get an initial assessment in minutes, completely free.

It’s important to know what the AI check is, and what it isn’t. It’s a first step that helps point you in the right direction, not a diagnosis. A registered dermatologist always reviews your situation before any advice or treatment follows. The AI check simply prepares the ground, so your dermatologist can get straight to the point.

Whatever you fill in is passed on to the dermatologist, and we suggest the specialist who best matches your complaint. You can always choose someone else.

Your answers are handled securely and treated as confidential medical information, just like the rest of your care on Derm2check.

Ready to start? You’ll find the AI check under QUICK AI.

The AI check works best when you provide clear information. Here are a few tips to help with this:

Take photos from different angles. A photo taken directly from above, one from the side and a wide-angle shot showing the surroundings in their entirety will, taken together, give a much better picture than a single close-up.

Describe your symptoms in as much detail as possible. When did they start, has anything changed, does it itch or hurt, and is there anything that makes the symptoms better or worse? The more detail you provide, the more helpful the initial assessment will be.

Your year of birth and gender are important. The same skin condition can have different implications at different ages, and some conditions are more common in one gender than the other. This information helps the AI to place your symptom in the correct context.

Please note that the AI check is a tool. It gives you an initial indication, but not a diagnosis. On Derm2check, you’ll also find clear descriptions of various skin conditions that can help you better understand what you’re seeing. A qualified dermatologist will assess your result and advise you on the right next step.

For some skin changes, photos alone are not enough to provide certainty – not even for a specialist. Whilst the AI check may indicate that something needs to be examined more closely, the most reliable next step in such cases is always a face-to-face examination by a dermatologist.

You don’t have to figure this out on your own. If you start with the AI check, we suggest the dermatologist who best matches your complaint, based on what you’ve filled in. You’re always free to choose someone else. You can select a dermatologist based on the language they speak and their specific area of expertise within dermatology, as some focus on particular skin complaints.Your country matters too. Choosing a dermatologist registered for your country means they can fully support your care there, including any follow-up steps your complaint may need. Each dermatologist has a detailed profile, so you can see who fits your situation best before you book.

If you’re unsure about a skin condition or would like a second opinion, you can request email advice from a dermatologist.

You can choose between a short or a detailed form. After payment, you can fill in the form and include any relevant details about your situation. You can also upload photos to support your case. Under normal circumstances, the dermatologist will respond within one working day.

The advice will be sent to you directly by email.
Please note: prescriptions are not provided for email advice. Prescriptions can only be issued during a video consultation or an in-person visit.

Do not use this option in urgent or emergency situations.

Once you’ve booked, here’s what to expect:

  1. You’ll receive a confirmation email with a personal link to your online waiting room, along with a link to pay for your consultation. Payment is needed to confirm your appointment, as the dermatologist reserves this time especially for you.
  2. If you started with the AI check, your details are already shared with the dermatologist. You can still add information or upload photos through the link in your email before the appointment.
  3. You’ll receive reminders before your appointment, so it doesn’t slip your mind.
  4. Five to ten minutes before your appointment, click the link to test your camera, microphone, and internet connection. The dermatologist is notified that you’re online and will start the consultation when ready.

Please note that the dermatologist may be delayed by an emergency. If that happens, you’ll be notified. Questions during the process? You can ask them through the chat function.

After your consultation, you can access the dermatologist’s advice and your medical information through the secure patient portal, using a personal PIN.
If your complaint calls for it, the dermatologist can also send any necessary documents to you directly by email.

The easiest way to start is with the AI check. Your details are then ready for the dermatologist, and you’ll see a suggestion for the specialist who best matches your complaint. Prefer to choose yourself? You can pick a dermatologist directly.

Once you’ve chosen your dermatologist, select a date and time and confirm your booking. You’ll receive a confirmation email with a personal link to change your appointment and to pay for your consultation. The price of the consultation is set by the dermatologist.

The consultation takes place through Webcamconsult, a secure platform. You don’t need to install any software: it works directly in all commonly used browsers on your computer, tablet, or smartphone.

Before your appointment, you’ll receive an email with a personal link to your online waiting room. Open this link to test your internet connection, microphone, and camera. When the dermatologist is ready, they’ll invite you into the consultation room.

Unlike email advice, a video consultation allows the dermatologist to start a treatment if your complaint calls for it.

You can watch this short video to see how it works: Watch on YouTube. For more information about the platform, visit Webcamconsult.com.

Once you’ve booked an appointment or requested email advice, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a secure link. Through this link you can get in touch with your dermatologist and share or receive any relevant information about your care.

With an account you have more ways to stay in touch. You can keep all your messages and documents in one place, follow up on earlier consultations, and reach your dermatologist more easily for any next steps.

This secure space is for short messages and document sharing, not for medical advice or urgent matters. If your complaint needs proper assessment, it’s best to book a consultation.

No, you don’t need an account to request an email consultation or book an online appointment. With an account, though, you get a few extra benefits. You have a secure patient area where all your appointments, documents, and communication with your doctor are safely stored in one place. You can send messages to your doctor, set a preferred doctor, and leave reviews.

Yes. Your personal data is encrypted and stored on European servers, and only your treating dermatologists can access your medical information.

Can I book a doctor without an account?
You need an account to book regular consultations. However, you can book a one-time walk-in consultation without an account.

You can cancel or reschedule through the secure link in your confirmation email, or by logging in to your account.

If you haven’t paid yet, you can cancel freely, your slot simply opens up again. Keep in mind that an appointment is only held for you once it’s paid and confirmed by the dermatologist, so it’s best to complete payment soon after booking to secure your time.

Once your appointment is paid and confirmed, the dermatologist reserves that time especially for you. If you cancel at least 24 hours before your appointment, you’ll be refunded the amount you paid, minus an administration fee. If you cancel less than 24 hours before your appointment, the amount you paid is not refunded. The refund is processed by the dermatologist directly.

To reschedule, cancel your current appointment and book a new date and time that suits you.

We’re sorry to hear something didn’t go as you’d hoped. Your feedback helps us, and other patients, so we’re grateful you’re taking the time to share it.

If your complaint is about a dermatologist, we ask you to raise it with them directly, as they’re responsible for your care and best placed to help. You’re also welcome to share your experience in a review.

If your complaint is about Derm2check itself, the platform, the booking process, or anything in your experience using the site, we’d really like to know. Fill in the contact form and tell us what we could do better. We read every message.

Don’t worry, this is usually easy to fix. The best way to avoid problems is to test your equipment ahead of time: when you open the link to your online waiting room five to ten minutes before your appointment, you can check your camera, microphone, and internet connection before the dermatologist joins. That way you’ll know everything works and you can relax into your consultation.

If something isn’t working, here are a few things to try:

  1. Check your device settings and your browser permissions to make sure access to your camera and microphone is allowed.
  2. Close any other apps that might be using your camera or microphone, such as another video call or your camera app.
  3. Refresh the page, or try opening the link in a different browser.

    Consultation types

    Walk-in Consultation

A walk-in consultation allows you to have a real-time video consultation with the doctor without a prior appointment. You will enter a virtual waiting room, and the dermatologist will attend to you as soon as possible.

    E-mail advice

Email advice allows you to receive a professional assessment from a certified dermatologist via email within two working days. Based on your input or AI assessment, the doctor will provide their evaluation and recommendations in writing. Email advice is limited to written guidance. If your situation requires further treatment steps to be arranged, the doctor will recommend a video or walk-in consultation instead.

    Physical Consultation

A physical consultation involves an in-person visit to the doctor's clinic or designated location. You will have the opportunity to discuss your skin concerns face-to-face and receive a thorough examination and treatment plan.

    Video Consultation

A video consultation allows you to have a remote appointment with the doctor via a secure video platform, from the comfort of your own home. Because the consultation takes place in real time, the doctor can discuss your skin concern in more detail and arrange any further treatment steps directly during the appointment.

    We are very sorry!
