Pemphigus Vulgaris

Pemphigus vulgaris is a rare autoimmune disease that causes blisters on the skin and mucous membranes. The immune system, which normally protects the body from disease, accidentally attacks healthy cells, causing blisters.

Symptoms

  • Blisters on the skin that easily burst and are painful.
  • Blisters in the mouth, throat, nose, and genitals.
  • Redness and pain in the skin and mucous membranes.
  • Sores in the mouth and other mucous membranes.
  • Difficulty eating and swallowing.
  • Fatigue and weakness.

Causes

Pemphigus Vulgaris is caused by a malfunction in the immune system, where the body attacks its own cells, especially those in the skin and mucous membranes. The exact cause is not fully understood, but genetic factors and certain environmental factors may play a role in triggering the disease.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis is made by a doctor through a physical examination and taking a sample of a blister or tissue for biopsy. Laboratory tests can also be conducted to detect specific antibodies characteristic of the disease.

Treatment

  • Medications that suppress the immune system, such as corticosteroids and other immunosuppressants, to reduce inflammation and prevent blister formation.
  • Antibiotics may sometimes be prescribed to prevent or treat infections.

Self-Care Tips

  • Maintain good oral hygiene by regularly brushing your teeth and rinsing your mouth with a gentle mouthwash.
  • Avoid rough or spicy food that may irritate the blisters.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing to reduce friction on the skin.
  • Protect your skin from direct sunlight.
  • Always discuss any changes in your symptoms with your doctor.

Consultation types

Walk-in Consultation

A walk-in consultation allows you to have a real-time video consultation with the doctor without a prior appointment. You will enter a virtual waiting room, and the dermatologist will attend to you as soon as possible.

E-mail advice

Email advice allows you to receive a professional assessment from a certified dermatologist via email within two working days. Based on your input or AI assessment, the doctor will provide their evaluation and recommendations in writing. Email advice is limited to written guidance. If your situation requires further treatment steps to be arranged, the doctor will recommend a video or walk-in consultation instead.

Physical Consultation

A physical consultation involves an in-person visit to the doctor's clinic or designated location. You will have the opportunity to discuss your skin concerns face-to-face and receive a thorough examination and treatment plan.

Video Consultation

A video consultation allows you to have a remote appointment with the doctor via a secure video platform, from the comfort of your own home. Because the consultation takes place in real time, the doctor can discuss your skin concern in more detail and arrange any further treatment steps directly during the appointment.
